Growing in Faith
At Living Spirit UMC, we believe faith is a journey, that each of us continues to be invited to take the “next step” in our relationship with God. Since we recognize that people experience God in different ways, we try to provide multiple opportunities to grow spiritually. As needs are identified, new programs or groups are offered. Listed below are current offerings:
Sunday Mornings throughout the year
Adult Sunday School meets at 9:15 a.m. in the parlor.
Sunday Worship
Sunday Worship at Living Spirit invites spiritual formation through the Word, preached, read and sung, and shared prayers. There is a Children's Message each Sunday, and children in grades 1-5 are excused from worship to attend Children's Church, following the children's message (about 10:40 a.m.)
Alternative Worship
Living Spirit also offers occasional alternative, informal worship. Please check the calendar page for these opportunities.
Faith Formation through small groups
A team from Living Spirit has been receiving intensive training from the Kaleidoscope Institute to help us create an inclusive community. This training is founded on Biblical teaching, research and real-life situations.
Bible Study at Curran’s Restaurant is an ongoing Bible study, open to the community, which meets Thursdays at 6:15 a.m. at Curran’s Restaurant, 42nd Street and Nicollet Avenue.
Living Spirit Walkers gather each Thursday at 8:15 a.m. for exercise and mutual support. Walking locations include Lake Nokomis and the Mall of America.
Faith Formation through service
The most visible service opportunity for growth is the Wednesday Night Suppers. A free community meal is prepared and served each Wednesday. Volunteers are needed for food preparation, setting tables, serving and clean up. Wednesday Night Suppers can also provide service opportunities for youth groups, confirmation classes and service hour requirements. Please contact the church office.
Prayer Group
A group gathers monthly to review the weekly prayer requests and celebrate birthdays and accomplishments, as well as share grief and loss, through a card ministry.
United Methodist Women
United Methodist Women (UMW) is an organization open to all women. There are studies and programs for spiritual growth, as well as hands-on opportunities to grow in faith through service to others. Dorcas Sewing Group meets monthly to sew items needed at Walker Methodist Health Center and Methodist Hospital from September-May.
